Energy is an eternal challenge for people and societies. The modern world is characterized by intensive development of technologies and their never faster introduction into practice, when energy dependence reaches dramatic proportions. An additional challenge in this domain is the threat to our planet from pollution produced by the modern world, among which energy plays a key role. Due to the dominant focus on fossil fuels, this role is especially evident through the emission of huge amounts of greenhouse gases. As it is known, they lead to global warming, and this further leads to different climate changes, which are manifested in different parts of the world in specific ways, e.g. through more frequent and stronger hurricanes, long-lasting droughts, strong storms, increased melting of “eternal ice”, rising sea levels, etc. In this way the long-term ecological balance is seriously endangered.

No phenomenon in nature is good or bad in itself, but we attribute certain properties to it. Thus, humanity considers the mentioned climate changes to be bad, mostly because they are happening faster than we can control them without negative consequences, although, of course, there will also be favorable ones. For example, it is predicted that some areas, now mostly frozen, will become warmer and more suitable for human life.

Finally, humanity must urgently take long-term measures to protect itself from the devastating effects of climate change. Otherwise, if the global temperature is allowed to exceed some critical values, which can happen in this century, there would be an irreversible change of state, after which it would not be possible to return to the previous situation. The role of energy in all this is crucial.

Therefore, it is to be expected that most countries in the world will consistently enter the process of ENERGY TRANSITION, which has in fact already begun.
